Dry needling is a technique used to help reduce pain and improve muscle stiffness. It is similar to acupuncture, in that the same style of needles are used for the technique. They are incredibly small and have some flexibility to them. They are nothing like the needles used to administer vaccinations or used by pathologists.
The benefits of dry needling includes:
- Improve muscle pain and stiffness
- Improved circulation and tissue healing
- Reduce over active nerve stimulation to muscles
- Activate weak muscles
Injuries I have found benefit from dry needling:
- Rotator cuff shoulder injury
- Upper trap pain/postural pain
- Headaches
- Hip pain/glute tendinopathy
- Runners knee/patella tracking issues
- RSI; especially around the elbows
- Achilles/calf tightness
- Low back pain (acute and chronic)
- Fibromyalgia
- Osteoarthritis
- Sports injuries
- Post operative treatment
